MWW Sponsors Annual Soapbox Derby

Montague WebWorks owner is Race Director and Gold Sponsor

In September of 2009, Montague WebWorks owner Mik Muller had a vision of a local soapbox derby. Kids, teens and adults would build custom soap box carts and chase down a local hill somewhere in Montague. One year later, in September of 2010, after much organizing, searching, building and cajoling, he convinced Montague Community TV to be the event "owner", gathered a committee of local people dedicated to the town, and held the First Annual Montague Soapbox Derby. Thirty five racers went down the 1st Street hill around Unity park that day, to the pleasure of some 1,600 people.

Since that first race, Montague WebWorks has been the primary sponsor, joined by other regulars such as Bear Country Radio, Greenfield Savings Bank, Kostanski Funeral Home, Silverscreen Design, Carriage House Designs, Hillside Plastics, and Judd Wire. This year the derby is also sponsored by Hale Custom Signs, Northeast Solar, Pioneed Valley Custom Construction, About Face Computers, and Franklin County Home Care Corporation.

Montague WebWorks invites the Pioneer Valley business community in being a sponsor of the Montague Soapbox Derby. It's a fun day of excitement, and it benefits a good cause: Montague Community TV (MCTV).  Any amount of support would be appreciated, as well as volunteers. Three or four hours on a Sunday.

MCTV is trying to buy a building so they can expand their studios and serve the community better. Your support of the race will help ensure they have the funds to get the job done.

If you are interested in supporting this event, please pop over to the official website (hosted by Montague WebWorks, of course) to download, print and fill out the sponsor form. Sponsorship starts at a measly $50, hey! There are also opportunities at the $110 level as well (gold sponsorships are closed). Read the form for more details.

Businesses are also invited to sponsor a derby cart. Find a local race enthusiast, build a cart with them (and your name on the side) and get involved in a fun, local, family-friendly event.

Good News For Local Businesses

MCTV is working with many local public access TV stations so they can air the race live on multiple area cable access stations this year in addition to Montague, including Greenfield, Shelburne, Bernardston and Northfield, and very likely Athol, Orange, and the FCAT Deerfield area as well.

This will offer some great publicity to the fine local businesses who sponsor the Derby. Space is limited, so if you would like to be a sponsor, please let them know. All sponsors will not only have a hay-bale banner at the race, but will be mentioned on the air by the announcer, as well as showing up in print on the TV screen during the broadcast. Don't miss it.

At the very least, I hope to see you there on Derby day, Sunday, September 22nd, in Unity Park, Turners Falls, MA.

Thanks!

-Mik
