More SEO Tips -- Post Some News!

Search Engine Optimization can be as simple as adding customer-focused or industry-related news posts

Every once in a while I take some time out to read up on the latest SEO Tips (Search Engine Optimization) in the web industry, and time and time again what comes out as the Number 1 advice is to make sure you have fresh, relevant content on your website.

The best way to do this is to post semi-regular news articles somewhere on your website. Either having the latest headlines show up in a side-bar, or having a Latest News page, with new items appearing frequently enough that Google doesn't think your site is static, or dead.

Why? Well, there are several reasons, not just so the site doesn't look abandoned...

  • If your customers come to the site more than once, they'll see that new stuff has been posted. This means you're engaged with your site, and thus you're engaged with your customers. You're taking the time to keep your site up-to-date with new content.
  • The slow build-up of news articles slowly increases the amount of content on your website for Google to index, and for people to traipse upon when doing searches. Bottom line: the more words on your website, the larger your potential for being found through a Google search.
  • Occasionally you will post something that someone else finds very useful or informative, and if they are on social media they may share it or link to your article... where other people will see the link and read your article.
  • As your news article content builds with time, it's possible that local news organizations will come to you as a leader in your industry, and will interview you, or link to you as a reference on a topic.

The Most Important Reason

But, really, the most important reason to post regular news articles to your website is because you can EMAIL them to your customers (as I did with this one).

You have existing customers and potential customers in your Contact Us database. They reached out to you through your website. You should reach back out to them with news about your company, specials and deals, and tips. They want to hear from you, so get back in touch!
